What is coaching and is it a good fit for me?

Coaching occurs when a coach guides the client in a process of self-discovery, by witnessing, being curious, questioning, affirming, challenging, and holding the client accountable as they take action to shift their way of being and/or move towards achieving a goal.  A client requires the desire to shift something in their life. Coaching has the goal of empowering the client and assumes that even if they are currently confused, deep down, the client has the answers to their own dilemmas.  If you are looking for a problem-solver, subject matter expert, or a consultant to provide you with advice on how to live your life, coaching may not be a good fit.

Prices are not listed for coaching services at this time because I want flexibility in my offerings and in how to arrange a coaching program with any given client.  For example, one client might be better served by doing a 6 mo program with bi-weekly meetings, whereas another client might be better served with an all day workshop with accountability follow up calls. 

Prices are listed for qigong instruction and workshops.

Do you offer a free sample session?

More than just a sample session. I will schedule anywhere from a 90-120 min complimentary discovery session with you so that you can experience what coaching is like, and actually get substantial depth and value from the conversation    Contact me at : connect@andyrupp.com

What is the difference between Coaching & Therapy or Mental Health Counseling?

My understanding is that both coaching and therapy are very likely to lead the client into some sensitive areas, as matters of deep importance to us as humans, tend to carry a lot of emotion.  Coaching can be considered "the art and science of assisting healthy and effectively functioning individuals to move forward and gain more meaningful and satisfying outcomes in their lives".  Whereas therapy is often more present and past oriented, sometimes focusing on the somatic experience of emotions but also on past trauma, upbringing and attachment styles, and it may have a diagnostic/pathological element.  While coaching is generally oriented toward positive action steps and the future, don't be surprised if elements of pain and/or grief arise in the process.  Change and growth is often uncomfortable, but is ultimately less painful and less soul crushing than being consistently stuck in a rut.  At this point in my career, I will refer out if I believe a client is dealing with a situation that is better served by a licensed mental health practitioner than by a coach.  You understand that in working with me as a coaching client, that I'm not providing medical advice, mental health diagnoses or therapy through this program. 

How do you incorporate Qigong into coaching?

Every client is different.  For some, I won't incorporate qigong.  For others, I may guide you in a brief exercise to ground and be more present for our session.  Others may wish to co-create specific flows or qigong postures that help them to embody their wisest, most compassionate, resourceful, powerful, patient, steadfast, brave, (whatever you most want to be), selves.  For others, it is perhaps just qigong and meditation that allows them to discover keen insights into themselves, and coaching serves more as an accountability tool to ensure that insights are acted upon.  No matter what your background and disposition is, as a coach, I will encourage you to cultivate embodied knowing (how to recognize when a thought, value, or decision is resonant or dissonant by experiencing the physical, energetic, somatic sensations related to it).
